Description
The world-famous pipe organ in Weingarten Abbey, Bavaria, Germany, was designed and built by Joseph Gabler in 1750, and is maintained today by Kuhn organ builders. Gabler was faced with the challenge of placing the organ pipes around the six high windows at the rear of the abbey, so that no light would be lost in the interior. His solution was stunning, especially considering all pipes are mechanically connected to the console and wind supply; there were electrical cables or connections until centuries after he built it! The inlaid woodwork of the console and the loft is also sublime.
