Exciting sale

Sometimes a sale is more than just a sale. I was delighted to be asked to give my permission to use my image of Gold and purple organ pipes by a publisher who wanted it for an anthology of organ music. It was a special thrill since one of my passions is music, and specifically organ music. So here was a triple whammy. This image will reach many people (I hope!) and I am just delighted that it really helped the designers create the sort of cover they were looking for. Everyone wins!

Oh dear I have been neglecting my blog

January 1st, 2018

The trouble is, life is so full at the moment it is hard to sit down and think how to describe it! My brother visited this website a few days ago and noticed I hadn't blogged in a long, long time. He was a little cross at me I think, but was very nice about it.
He was right - a quiet, lapsed blog is not a pretty site. So I will try to be a good girl and make this one of my resolutions for the New Year - blog blog blog.
Right for starters: A nice bit of news. I just sold a picture of the pipe organ one our my favourite places, Castle Ashby in the UK .
Thank you to the buyer - I hope you enjoy having it one your wall - and perhaps we may meet one day soon, as I will be at your lovely church in June this year!
So - that was a pleasant start to 2018 - I wish all my readers a similar frisson to propel them forward. Plus loads of health and general happiness of course.
Cheerful noises,
Jenny

One of the largest organs in the world

November 11th, 2015

One of the largest organs in the world

When you try to depict one of the world's largest pipe organs, the problem is: how? Scale and a sense of size is very difficult to get across to the viewer. But with this image I was able to show that, mainly through the diminutive figure of the organist sitting at the console. The organ is the Hill pipe organ in the Sydney Town Hall, Australia, and is one of the largest in the world. Note especially the size of the large front pipes. Certainly an organ you could take home and put in your front sitting room. So I was very pleased to get a notice this morning that someone has bought a print of this image - and I hope they enjoy it. Thanks guys!

Thank you to the buyer from Durham, USA

Thank you to the buyer from Durham, USA

Delighted to return home from another European concert tour to news of a sale. This is one of my favourite organs - the Cavaille-Coll organ in St Sulpice in Paris, France. It seems to be popular with other organ lovers too!
I have garnered many more images from my latest travels in the UK, Germany and Switzerland, so I will be busily working on these ready for posting within the next couple of months.

Breda Cathedral and organ

Breda Cathedral and organ

Thank you to the buyer of the card with this image. The Grote Kerk, in Breda, the Netherlands, really is an impressive space, from the moment you walk in. The crowning glory is the organ which is is a variety of bright, deep colours - greens, blues, reds. The original organ was built in 1534 by Niehoff, and it was last rebuilt by Van den Heuvel in 2000. It has 53 stops, 4 manuals and pedal and in total has 3780 pipes.

Exeter Cathedral and pipe organ - poster sale

Exeter Cathedral and pipe organ - poster sale

It was the amazing symmetry of this view inside the cathedral in Exeter, England, which first hooked my eye. The vaulting and the ceiling bosses all leading to the Loosemore organ case in the distance created both a grandeur and a point to the photo. And I love the warm, rich colours of the stone. The four-manual organ on the triforium is enclosed in a case that was built in 1665, although the modern instrument inside the case was last restored and added to in 2003 by the English organ builders, Harrison and Harrison. Thanks to the buyer in VA.

Spooky organ sale

Photography Prints
Post-processing with HDR results in a rather spooky view of this already surreal organ in St Bertrand de Comminges, in France. This particular organ was in fact featured in a ghost story by M R James, called "Canon Alberic's Scrap-Book", but in real life is simply magnificent. The heavily carved organ case matches the world-famous choir stalls which are believed top be the work of Nicolas Bachelier. The organ itself dates from around 1550, and after undergoing many changes and adaptations over the centuries now sports 3 manuals and pedals, with 31 stops and 47 ranks. It is also unusual in that it is built in the corner of a church rather than along a wall. Thanks to the buyer in Brooklyn Park, Mn, USA, and I hope you enjoy your new purchase!

Iphone 4 case looks gorgeous - and just sold

Iphone 4 case looks gorgeous - and just sold

I have heard this organ in concert, in Dinkelsbuehl, Germany, and know how lovely it can sound. Just as lovely, only visually, is the brilliant red and silver case that sets off the organ pipes. It was built by the world-famous organ builders of Austria, Rieger-Orgelbau, who also built our three-manual organ in Christchurch, New Zealand, which is now sadly unusable because the auditorium it is in is closed for earthquake repairs. Meanwhile, the Dinkelsbuehl instrument makes a stunning iPhone Case too, so I hope the recipient in Germany will agree! Thanks to the buyer.

Nice start to the morning with Bamberg Bridge selling yet again

Art Prints
Another sale, proving that this little shot across to the Old Town Hall in Bamberg, Germany, is one of my most popular images. I do think the colours are fairly amazing - and I'm always grateful to the gardeners of the city who planted such beautiful pink geraniums!

Half price sale discount for a limited time

Half price sale discount for a limited time

Having nearly reached my 300 images goal (only one more to go), I thought I'd celebrate with a sale. So here we go, with a huge 50% discount until December 5th, off all photos in my shop. Organs, animals, scenes, abstracts, symmetry, doors, locks, - everything! All 299 of them. I will make a special offer when I upload the 300th image - once I have chosen it. The cats of course, are urging me towards the "Feline reclining in luxury on the chaise longue" image which they posed for one day when they obliged for a photo shoot. Nah, I said, handing them a can opener and a regular tin of tuna mash, I can do better than that. Do you know that cats can throw cans at your head and hit with remarkable accuracy?
Anyway - until the 300th image, you can enjoy the 50% discount. Just apply the discount code of UFHPJY at checkout, no matter what product you buy - prints, cards, posters, canvases.
Make one cat owner very happy (and I'll be able to afford the luxury tin of mouse-flavoured salmon for them for Christmas...)

A slew of sales - well, four, at least

A slew of sales - well, four, at least

Like buses, sales are sporadic. For a while, zilch; then suddenly a batch get snaffled up for no clear reason. Not that I'm complaining, and am delighted at the variety of choice. One included an image that was part of my Organ Fantasy calendar, in which the more usual images were tweaked into slightly strange hues and shapes. The buyer opted for a little boy blue version of the beautiful organ in St Augustine, Paris, France . Nice choice there. The great musical stadt of Leipzig in Germany was not to be outdone, and one buyer chose the image of the organ in St Thomas's (well-known to none other than the great J S Bach) with the red ribs of the vaulted ceiling above it. The blurred pipes from the English organ in Bridlington Priory (See additional picture) have drawn a number of viewers so it wasn't surprising that someone finally bought a print of it. A buyer way down in Houston, Texas, bought a large print of the manuals of the fabulous Oberlinger organ in Wiesbaden's Marktkirche, one of my favourite places which we regularly visit so my husband can give a concert there. All up, a nice little collection to welcome in Spring. Thank you to the buyers who were kind enough to vote with their wallets!

Sold my first photograph

Sold my first photograph

My first sale!! Just as I was wondering if everyone had left on the big white spaceship for Mother Moon and left me here all alone, the sale of Bamberg Bridge popped up. Thrilled doesn't cover it. Especially pleasing as I rated this shot highly too and am glad that my confidence in it wasn't misplaced. So a HUGE thank-you to my first-time buyer, and if I knew who you were, I'd shout you a beer. Or something. Now to wait for the next sale... :-)

Two shots - same organ

September 24th, 2013

Two shots - same organ

Today I have loved creating two quite different shots, both taken of the same pipe organ. The wonderful Binns pipe organ in the Albert Hall, Nottingham, England, has a special elegance. The gold-painted pipes glow in certain lights and the small details such as the carved wooden fronts between the organ manuals, all make it a work of art as well as a musical instrument. In today's world of mass production and lack of attention to detail, it is lovely to see.

Revisiting Breda, Paris, Birmingham and Bavaria

Revisiting Breda, Paris, Birmingham and Bavaria

The joys of the internet combined with modern digital photography! This morning I have already savoured working on shots of the beautiful organ in Breda Grote Kerk (craftsmanship oozing from every angel!), one of my very favourites, that of the Cavaille-Coll organ in St Sulpice Paris, The extremely ornate baroque Riepp organ in Ottobeuren Abbey, and the green and gold hand-painted pipes of the Birmingham Town Hall Mander organ. What I look for in my organ photos is that 'wow!' factor. It's the kind of response I hear when sitting in a pew in a cathedral, and a tourist sees an organ for the first time. I try to capture this sort of reaction in my shots, and bring the skill and craftsmanship of these incredible instruments to people who have no idea about organs, past that of the harmonium at their local church.
