High Dynamic Range - means usually combing several shots that cover a range of lighter, through normal to darker photos, to result in a dense, sometimes ethereal image. I used Photomatix in years gone by, forgot about until one of the photographers here reminded me. Great fun, but I sense that sometimes it is over-used and often badly used (usually by me!!).
