Oh my word, I'm scrolling along and this caught my eye and I had to back up! Reminds me of my mom. We grew up with two organs, one being a church organ, a piano, etc.. every music instrument imaginable. She had a studio at one time in CA. This image tugs at my heart. She's been on my mind lately. Great image and congratulations on a great sale!

Jenny Setchell replied:

Thanks so much Toni - I'm glad it stopped you in your tracks and gave you a little happy memory! I have lots more organ images in my galleries!

Artist's Description

The present-day pipe organ in the Melbourne Town Hall, Australia, was built by the American Schantz organ building company; but it has an older and interesting history. The organ was built in 1872, (two years after the town hall was opened), by the English builder Hill and Son. Hill, Norman and Beard installed the new Grand Organ in 1929 after the town hall fire, and in 2001 the organ was restored and enlarged with nearly 10,000 pipes and four manuals and pedals.

My main focus these days is on pipe organ photography, but I enjoy landscapes, patterns and symmetry, experimenting with different styles - you name it, almost anything is fun to explore. Pipe organs are especially fascinating since no two in the world are alike, and the craftsmanship and beauty of so many of them is truly thrilling and awe-inspiring. Whether the pipes are far away up in a loft, or more accessible on either side of a nave or chancel, the techniques which builders have employed for centuries to cope with the limitations...
