Nice start to the morning with Bamberg Bridge selling yet again

January 30th, 2015

Art Prints
Another sale, proving that this little shot across to the Old Town Hall in Bamberg, Germany, is one of my most popular images. I do think the colours are fairly amazing - and I'm always grateful to the gardeners of the city who planted such beautiful pink geraniums!

Half price sale discount for a limited time

Half price sale discount for a limited time

Having nearly reached my 300 images goal (only one more to go), I thought I'd celebrate with a sale. So here we go, with a huge 50% discount until December 5th, off all photos in my shop. Organs, animals, scenes, abstracts, symmetry, doors, locks, - everything! All 299 of them. I will make a special offer when I upload the 300th image - once I have chosen it. The cats of course, are urging me towards the "Feline reclining in luxury on the chaise longue" image which they posed for one day when they obliged for a photo shoot. Nah, I said, handing them a can opener and a regular tin of tuna mash, I can do better than that. Do you know that cats can throw cans at your head and hit with remarkable accuracy?
Anyway - until the 300th image, you can enjoy the 50% discount. Just apply the discount code of UFHPJY at checkout, no matter what product you buy - prints, cards, posters, canvases.
Make one cat owner very happy (and I'll be able to afford the luxury tin of mouse-flavoured salmon for them for Christmas...)

A slew of sales - well, four, at least

A slew of sales - well, four, at least

Like buses, sales are sporadic. For a while, zilch; then suddenly a batch get snaffled up for no clear reason. Not that I'm complaining, and am delighted at the variety of choice. One included an image that was part of my Organ Fantasy calendar, in which the more usual images were tweaked into slightly strange hues and shapes. The buyer opted for a little boy blue version of the beautiful organ in St Augustine, Paris, France . Nice choice there. The great musical stadt of Leipzig in Germany was not to be outdone, and one buyer chose the image of the organ in St Thomas's (well-known to none other than the great J S Bach) with the red ribs of the vaulted ceiling above it. The blurred pipes from the English organ in Bridlington Priory (See additional picture) have drawn a number of viewers so it wasn't surprising that someone finally bought a print of it. A buyer way down in Houston, Texas, bought a large print of the manuals of the fabulous Oberlinger organ in Wiesbaden's Marktkirche, one of my favourite places which we regularly visit so my husband can give a concert there. All up, a nice little collection to welcome in Spring. Thank you to the buyers who were kind enough to vote with their wallets!

Sold my first photograph

Sold my first photograph

My first sale!! Just as I was wondering if everyone had left on the big white spaceship for Mother Moon and left me here all alone, the sale of Bamberg Bridge popped up. Thrilled doesn't cover it. Especially pleasing as I rated this shot highly too and am glad that my confidence in it wasn't misplaced. So a HUGE thank-you to my first-time buyer, and if I knew who you were, I'd shout you a beer. Or something. Now to wait for the next sale... :-)

Two shots - same organ

Two shots - same organ

Today I have loved creating two quite different shots, both taken of the same pipe organ. The wonderful Binns pipe organ in the Albert Hall, Nottingham, England, has a special elegance. The gold-painted pipes glow in certain lights and the small details such as the carved wooden fronts between the organ manuals, all make it a work of art as well as a musical instrument. In today's world of mass production and lack of attention to detail, it is lovely to see.

Revisiting Breda, Paris, Birmingham and Bavaria

Revisiting Breda, Paris, Birmingham and Bavaria

The joys of the internet combined with modern digital photography! This morning I have already savoured working on shots of the beautiful organ in Breda Grote Kerk (craftsmanship oozing from every angel!), one of my very favourites, that of the Cavaille-Coll organ in St Sulpice Paris, The extremely ornate baroque Riepp organ in Ottobeuren Abbey, and the green and gold hand-painted pipes of the Birmingham Town Hall Mander organ. What I look for in my organ photos is that 'wow!' factor. It's the kind of response I hear when sitting in a pew in a cathedral, and a tourist sees an organ for the first time. I try to capture this sort of reaction in my shots, and bring the skill and craftsmanship of these incredible instruments to people who have no idea about organs, past that of the harmonium at their local church.
