Description
The intricate detail on the wooden case of the organ in Ely Cathedral, seen close-up. Carved angels are set among hand-painted and gold-painted organ pipes and embossed wooden decorations. Ely Cathedral, on England's east coast, boasts a large pipe organ that was originally built in 1685. Today's instrument was rebuilt in 2001 by the British organ-building firm of Harrison and Harrison. The present carved wooden organ case was designed by Sir Gilbert Scott in 1859.
